Severed Savior - Servile Insurrection

Having spent the last five years honing their brand of technical and brutal Death-Metal, California’s Severed Savior remerges with a sophomore work through the increasingly reliable record label Willowtip, following a debut on Unique Leader titled “Brutality is Law”.
“Servile Insurrection”, exudes the usual technical proficiency of a more elaborated and brutal Death-Metal group with a surgical riffing, vicious and entangling leads and a strafing drum assault. There are times when Severed Saviour doesn’t sound too dissimilar to acts like Deeds of Flesh and Decrepit Birth, perhaps not delving too deep into overly technical details as the aforementioned bands.
The gestures they make towards a more individual path emerges when Severed Savior indulge in a few jazzy and progressive interludes nodding at both Cynic and Atheist, such as witnessed in the snappy and fast-paced opener “Question”, the constantly twisting “Fuck The Humans” and the brutal finale of the title-theme.
Overall, although Severe Savior adds nothing new to the genre and sometimes it’s hard to tell them apart from the zillion of other bands calling Death-Metal their favourite playground, “Servile Insurrection” is a competent and extremely well played Death-Metal release that will certainly not disappoint fans of bands like Deeds of Flesh, Pyrexia and Cryptopsy. (6.5/10)
