Sons of Tonatiuh - Sons of Tonatiuh

This Atlanta-based quartet belongs to that wreckful breed of bands that are influenced by sludge icons Eyehategod and Buzzov*en and includes names like Deadbird, Weedeater and Black Cobra among others.
Their debut self-titled album shows no hope, no mercy and no glowing melodies, delivering instead a corrosive crusty-sludgy sound that is just as visceral and filthy as the best efforts from the aforementioned acts. Fiery, slow-driven riffs collide against bursts of scorching vocals that are maybe fifty-percent Mike Williams and the other fifty-percent Jude Black. There’s also a punk-like intensity that rears its ugly head from time to time on this record, making it an even more unpleasant experience, in a good way. I mean you could almost smell all the piss, the sweet and blood pouring from these eight songs such is band’s dedication to torture our eardrums with nasty and vile sounds.
Sons of Tonatiuh have written a record that has some truly raucous and dirty moments, and this definitely makes them a band to watch closely in the future. (7.4/10)
